OLATHE, Kan. (AP) - One of four men suspected in the killing of a suburban Kansas City gun store owner during a botched robbery attempt indicated Monday that he would plead guilty.

Jon Bieker, 44, was fatally shot at his Shawnee store in January. Police said gunfire was exchanged between Bieker and the four suspects after they tried to rob She’s a Pistol, a store catering to female gun owners. Three of the defendants were also wounded in the shootout.

During a preliminary hearing Monday in Johnson County court, 20-year-old defendant Deanthony Wiley, waived his right to the proceeding and indicated he would plead guilty at a later date. The Kansas City Star reports (https://bit.ly/1S7zZwl ) that the hearing, held to determine if probable cause exists to take the defendants to trial, continued for the remaining suspects.

A key piece of evidence is expected to be video recovered from the store’s surveillance system. According to court documents, the footage shows suspects entering the store and pointing guns at Bieker’s wife Becky, who gets punched and knocked to the floor. The footage shows Jon Bieker appearing from a back room, firing a weapon. According to documents, three of the robbers fled while a remaining suspect fired on Bieker.

Becky Bieker testified that she has no memory of what happened between her husband and the robbers, but said she opened fire on the remaining suspect after she thought he was reaching for a weapon.

Wiley, Londro E. Patterson III, 20, Nicquan Midgyett, 20, and 18-year-old Hakeem Malik, are charged with first-degree felony murder, attempted aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and aggravated battery.
