HOUSE SPRINGS, Mo. (AP) - Authorities in the St. Louis area’s Jefferson County are investigating the shooting death of a man after a dispute at a park.

Investigators say Patrick Marchlewski of St. Louis County died at a hospital after being shot in the chest about 8 p.m. Saturday at Rockford Beach Park near House Springs, Missouri.

The shooter - a 30-year-old High Ridge man - was initially taken into custody on suspicion voluntary manslaughter but was released without charges. Authorities did not explain why he was released.

Authorities say the shooting happened after an argument near the beach area. While there are various witness accounts, authorities say the initial dispute appeared to start over trash, perhaps beer cans, being thrown into a swimming area.
