MCINTYRE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities are investigating an early morning fire in central Georgia that claimed the lives of a mother and her two sons.

Wilkinson County Coroner Billy Mathews says the blaze happened shortly before 1 a.m. Monday at a home on Vinson Road in the McIntyre area.

Mathews tells WMAZ-TV (https://on.wmaz.com/1JKSigN) that 37-year-old Lathelma Ferguson escaped the home, but ran back in to rescue her sons. He said all three then became trapped inside.

The sons were identified as 12-year-old Damion Beck Jr.; and 10-year-old Donavan Beck.

Mathews says investigators were still trying to determine a cause of the fire.

McIntyre is about 30 miles east of Macon.
