ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) - Police have identified the man who drowned at the Second Dam in the Town of Ithaca over the weekend.

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Eric Richardson drowned after he jumped into the water Sunday night and failed to resurface. The incident occurred just after 6 p.m. at the Six Mile Creek reservoir, where the Virgil resident was swimming with friends.

Bystanders in the area entered the water several times until Richardson was found and brought to the surface unconscious. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was later pronounced dead.

In addition to the sheriff’s office, members of the Ithaca Police Department, the Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance responded to the fatal accident.
