July 28—From cloudy skies to wild ponies, we’ve rounded up five things to know today in Hampton Roads:

Chance for storms: Clouds should keep temperatures in the 80s today. We’ll have a chance for showers or storms this afternoon.

Your two cents. Suffolk residents, you can weigh in on what qualities you’d like to see in a new city manager and what priorities a new manager should tackle. Forums are from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Thursday.

So long, farewell. Demolition begins today on Norfolk’s old General District Courts. Contractors will tear down the building in pieces to reuse, recycle and sell some of the old building materials. The public will be able to watch as the work begins at 8 a.m. today at the northeast corner of the building.

Wild horses. The 90th annual Chincoteague Pony Swim is scheduled for Wednesday. The public can watch as the ponies swim from Assateague to the east side of Chincoteague in the event made famous by Marguerite Henry’s 1940’s book “Misty of Chincoteague.”

Flag flap. Lawyers for the Sons of Confederate Veterans will square off Friday against the state over Confederate battle flags on state license plates. The legal battle is set for federal court in Danville, the last capital of the Confederacy. A new poll says Virginians are split over banning the flag on license plates.
