HILO, Hawaii (AP) - The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands is proposing a new subdivision that would make 80 agriculture lots in Panaewa available to beneficiaries.

The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1Sb4ZeL ) that a draft environmental assessment for the project says Makuu Farm Lots residents forced to leave due to lava could move to the half-acre lots.

The July 9 report did not explain how the absence of a lava threat from the June 27 flow would affect the plan and the ability for Makuu residents to relocate.

The project would divide five 10-acre parcels into 80 lots on Auwae Road east of Prince Kuhio Plaza and Mahiai Street.
