LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A couple has been arrested after police say their two young children were found alone in the middle of a busy street in Little Rock.

The 39-year-old woman and 37-year-old man were arrested Sunday night and face child endangerment charges.

According to a Pulaski County Sheriff’s arrest report, the couple’s 1-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son were found in the middle of Dixon Road and “almost struck by a vehicle.”

An incident report says the children’s father arrived at the scene 50 minutes later looking for the kids. The report says the mother told investigators she was asleep and did not know how the children got out of their home.

The children were taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital and are now in the custody of the Department of Human Services. The couple was being held at the Pulaski County jail.
