CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Officials say about 1,000 guests were evacuated after a weather-related electrical fire caused the Hilton Clearwater Beach to lose power.

The fire alarm went off about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Clearwater Fire & Rescue Operations Chief Richard Riley says firefighters quickly got the fire under control. No guests were ever in danger.

He told the Tampa Tribune (https://bit.ly/1VLnFRz ) the fire marshal’s office is investigating but early indications point toward water from heavy rains affected the generator.

Riley said the hotel staff worked with officials to safely evacuate the hotel.

Power remained out Tuesday morning, but guests were allowed back into their rooms.
