July 28—Witnesses are coming forward in the alleged murder case that happened early Sunday morning in Oak Park.

According to the Bartlesville Police Department, 44-year-old Carl Ronald Rogers Jr. of Tulsa was killed Sunday in an incident police believe began in Douglass Park and ended in Oak Park.

“Investigators interviewed a few people off of the list,” BPD Sgt. David Hackler told the Examiner-Enterprise on Tuesday, referring to a list of possible witnesses the BPD was seeking. The Examiner-Enterprise, as well as other media outlets, had circulated the list of names.

“Several came in and saw their name in the paper or someone told them it was in there.”

He said that investigators are working diligently on the case and a status meeting is planned for Tuesday.

According to BPD Capt. Jay Hastings, authorities received a call of “a large disturbance” around 1:15 a.m. Sunday morning at a location in the 700 block of NW Acorn Street in Oak Park.

“While officers were responding, they received other calls of shots being fired at the same location,” Hastings said. “Upon arrival, officers found a 44-year-old man deceased, lying in the middle of the street.”

Hastings said that the man had “apparently been shot during the disturbance.”

“Most of the subjects involved had already left the scene,” he said.

BPD investigators were then called to the scene and began collecting evidence and trying to locate witnesses.

“Initially, it appears there was an argument in Douglass Park and the subjects involved drove north on Virginia Street to the remote location on Acorn Street in Oak Park, where the shooting took place,” Hastings said.

Douglass Park had been the setting for a reunion of the Douglass School on the day prior, a fact that Douglassaires Association representatives say has been the source of some confusion.

“This incident was in no way associated with the Douglass reunion,” says Douglass reunion co-organizer James Abraham. “They weren’t people that were a part of the Douglass reunion and the reunion events that were scheduled in the park ended the night before.”

Hackler said that investigators are still attempting to locate possible witnesses for questioning in the incident.

“These possible witnesses include: Kendell Donnell Baird, Broderick Towers, Jamal Jones AKA ‘Jmillz,’ Horace Alexander, Randy Ricks, Deante Williams, Troy Hester Jr., Michael Todd, Keisha Penn, Jerrin Birmingham, Douglas Bowlin AKA ‘Fresh,’ Denorvice Howard AKA ‘Doobie,’ Damian Rogers AKA ‘Debo,’ Jamal Diggs, Danny Newton AKA ‘Pooh,’ Jenni Parker (and) Demarco Dailey AKA ‘Snoop,’” he said.

“Investigators are also attempting to locate a Silver 2012 GMC Terrain SUV with Oklahoma Tag 863-LOX.”

Anyone with information about the shooting, the location of any of the possible witnesses or the silver GMC, is urged to call the Bartlesville Police Department at 918-338-4001 or Crime Stoppers at 918-336-2583.
