July 28—CHINCOTEAGUE — The 90th annual Chincoteague Pony Swim is scheduled for Wednesday.

The swim is expected to happen between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., depending on the tide, according to the event’s website. The ponies will swim across the channel from Assateague to the east side of Chincoteague.

The event is free and visitors for the day are being asked to go to the Chincoteague Combined School at 4586 Main St. on Chincoteague Island to catch the free shuttle.

The first pony to reach the shore will be named King or Queen Neptune and will be given away in a raffle later in the day at the carnival grounds.
