July 28—A 7-year-old boy who was missing overnight in Aroostook County was found safe Tuesday morning when he found his way out of the woods.

The boy, Tait, was found safe after 6 a.m. when he made his way to a road in New Sweden and was spotted by a passing car, according to Down East Emergency Medicine Institute Search and Rescue, which helped with the search operation.

Tait, whose last name wasn’t released, went missing around 7 p.m. Monday when he went looking for his family’s border collie. His parents reported the boy missing around 8 p.m.

Search crews used K9 units, an infrared helicopter and people on the ground to look for the boy. The border collie was found before the boy, according to the search and rescue group.
