July 28—NORFOLK — A contractor will begin tearing down the old General District Court this morning.

An excavator will start by taking pieces out of the northeast corner of the building, a city news release says. Demolition is expected to take a month.

Contractors are dismantling the building in pieces in order to save materials for reuse and recycling, city spokeswoman Lori Crouch said. The steel from the building, for example, can be sold.

The General District and Circuit Court moved into a new building earlier this year.
