July 28—The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 54-year-old Chimayó man Monday in connection with the killing of a 49-year-old woman.

The sheriff’s office said Leonard Coriz will be charged with an open count of murder and is being held at the Santa Fe County jail in the death of Peggy Sue Padilla, 49, of Arroyo Seco.

Sheriff’s investigators said they responded to a call about a suspicious death early Monday morning and found Padilla’s body on her driveway on Boneyard Road in Arroyo Seco.

Sheriff’s officials didn’t say how the woman died, but she “appeared to have received injuries consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle,” a news release says.

An unidentified person who had arrived at the woman’s home early Monday morning discovered Padilla’s body, the statement says.

The sheriff’s office didn’t release any other details regarding the investigation.

Online court records show Coriz was charged with DWI four times between 2006 and 2008. But the charges in those four cases were dismissed, online court records show.
