July 28—Two people who were standing in front of a broken-down vehicle alongside New Circle Road were hospitalized Monday night after a crash that pushed the vehicle into them.

The broken-down vehicle was parked in the emergency lane on the inner loop of New Circle near the Richmond Road exit, and another vehicle driven by someone who had stopped to help was parked behind it, said Lexington police Sgt. Joe Anderson.

Another motorist on New Circle Road veered into the emergency lane and hit the helper’s vehicle, pushing it into the broken-down vehicle.

The people who had been inside the vehicle that was broken down — an adult and a young teen — were standing in front of it, and it was pushed into them, Anderson said.

Both were taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening. However, Anderson described the adult’s injuries as “significant.”

No one else was injured in the collision, which occurred shortly after 9 p.m., he said.
