July 28—NORFOLK — The attack submarine John Warner will be commissioned on Saturday at Norfolk Naval Station.

The sub, named for former Sen. John Warner, will be the 12th Virginia class attack sub in the fleet, a Navy news release says. Warner served five terms in the U.S. Senate and was the 61st Navy secretary.

Jeanne, his wife, is the sponsor of the ship.

The Navy took delivery of the sub in June. Its homeport will be Norfolk.
