July 28—Tony Tata, the North Carolina transportation secretary, resigned today to focus family and personal matters, according to a WRAL report.

In a statement, Gov. Pat McCrory said Tata was a valuable partner in the efforts to modernize the state’s transportation system, according to the report.

Chief Deputy DOT Secretary Nick Tennyson has been named acting transportation secretary.
