July 28—PITTSBURG — An off-road vehicle sparked a 37-acre grass fire in the hills above Pittsburg on Monday afternoon, leaving one man with minor burns but no houses threatened, a Contra Costa Fire spokesman said.

Confire and CalFire crews completely contained the blaze, on the grassy hills above West Leland Road and between San Marco Boulevard and Bailey Road, at 3:05 p.m., said Confire spokesman Robert Marshall. While homes were nearby, the fire on the southside of Highway 4, was spreading away from the residences, he said.

An off-road vehicle in the area sparked the flames around 1:43 p.m., Marshall said, and one individual had minor burns to his arm when he tried to extinguish the fire. Firefighters, along with air support from helicopters and airplanes, battled the flames in hot weather with light winds, he said.
