July 28—Everett police arrested a man on investigation of felony domestic violence after he allegedly assaulted the mother of his child and took the couple’s 2-month-old as a hostage.

Officers were called to a home in the 2600 block of Rockefeller Avenue around 7:30 p.m. on Monday, according to police.

When they arrived, they found the woman outside, police said. She told officers she had been able to get out of the apartment, but was unable to bring the baby.

The man remained inside the apartment for about three hours, refusing to release the baby or surrender, police said.

Officers surrounded the home and began negotiations with the man. He brought the child out around 10:30 p.m., but then went back inside, police said.

About 45 minutes later, the man surrendered to officers and was taken into custody.

The woman sustained non-life threatening injuries and the uninjured baby was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett as a precautionary measure, police said.
