July 28—An Afton man is facing charges of assault, criminal mischief and child endangerment after he allegedly punched his wife in the face and smashed her cellphone to stop her from calling for help, troopers said Monday.

Jeremy Astalos, 38, was arrested over the weekend following a 911 report of a dispute at a home on Hillside Drive in Afton, according to State Police at Troop C in Sidney.

Police said Astalos was charged with child endangerment because he allegedly hit his wife in the presence of a child.

Astalos, arraigned in Afton town court, was ordered held at Chenango County Jail for lack of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 property bond.
