July 28—HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Officials at Tri-State Airport in Huntington confiscated a loaded gun that was discovered in carry-on baggage Monday.

Agents with the Transportation Safety Administration discovered the 9mm handgun while conducting an X-ray scan of a passenger’s carry-on bag, according to TSA public affairs officer Lisa Farbstein.

Farbstein said the weapon’s magazine was loaded with nine rounds. She said airport police confiscated the weapon, which was in the bag of a Barboursville man flying to Punta Gorda, Florida.

Farbstein reminded travelers that firearms, firearms parts and ammunition are not permitted in carry-on bags. Firearms may be transported in checked baggage if propery packaged and declared.

Passengers who bring an improperly packaged gun to a TSA checkpoint face possible criminal charges and civil penalties from TSA of up to $11,000, Farbstein said.
