July 28—FILER — Filer Police were called to the town’s fire department Friday for a call about a shirtless man beating on the building.

Rene Garcia, 26, of Twin Falls, was arraigned Monday in Twin Falls County Magistrate Court on a felony charge of malicious injury to property.

When police arrived at the fire department, 228 Main St., shortly before 6 p.m., they found a shattered window on the west side of the building, court documents said. Police searched the empty building, but could not find Garcia.

Fire Chief Bud Compher soon called police and said he found Garcia and was with him in the 200 block of Midway Street.

Garcia admitted he broke the window of the fire department and said he also broke a window at the Kelly Bean Company warehouse, police said.

At the warehouse, police found a window broken out, the door knob broken off, a large piece of steel embedded in the wall, light fixtures broken and multiple holes in the drywall of the building, court documents said.

The damage at the warehouse was estimated to be $1,250. The broken window at the fire department was estimated at $500.

Garcia’s bond was set at $1,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 7.
