July 28—A 24-year-old former teacher at a Caldwell church was sentenced to 11.5 years in prison Monday for sexual battery of a minor who is 16 to 17, according to the Canyon County Prosecutor’s Office.

Casey R. Dyck, most recently of McMinnville, Ore., won’t be eligible for parole until he has served a year and a half.

Investigators determined that Dyck had an inappropriate sexual relationship with an underage female between April and May of 2014, while he was a teacher at Centennial Baptist. He was arrested in February this year.

Prosecutors said Dyck had sexual contact with the victim at numerous locations, including Dyck’s home and the school. He was also found to have exchanged inappropriate photos and texts with numerous minors.

“One of the victims disclosed that Dyck informed her that he would give her extra credit if she wore short skirts and low-cut tops to school,” a release from the prosecutor’s office said.

“Mr. Dyck used his position of trust as a teacher and youth pastor to groom these young girls and then take advantage of them,” Prosecutor Bryan Taylor said in the relese. “I’m thankful that the court can see the damage he’s caused them, and for that, he deserves to be behind bars.”

Dyck was ordered to register as a sex offender, submit a DNA sample and have no contact with the victims, or any minor females during the duration of his sentence unless ordered by the court. He must pay a $5,000 civil penalty, $2,000 in restitution and $750 in fines and court costs.
