July 28—Cave City Council met in closed session Monday during a special-called meeting to discuss real estate.

Upon returning to open session, a motion was made to purchase “the real estate in question,” but the council voted 3-2 not to buy the land.

Council members Kevin Houchens, Gary Minor and Steve Pedigo were the no voters. Seaborn Ellzey and Denny Doyle voted in favor of the purchase.

Councilman Gary Hogan was not present for the meeting.

After the meeting, Mayor Dwayne Hatcher said he could not disclose where the land was located, how many acres it consisted of or whether it was being considered for use as an industrial park.

When asked if the council was still looking for land that can be used as an industrial park, Hatcher said, “We are moving forward.”

As for when the council will be ready to make a decision regarding the purchase of land for an industrial park, Hatcher said, “Soon. I’m hoping by the next meeting, but that is not a guarantee.”

The city received a $100,000 grant from the Glasgow-Barren County Industrial Development Economic Authority earlier in the year to aid in the purchase of land for an industrial park.

Hatcher had previously said there were at least two properties under review for possible purchase.

The council has met in special-called session a couple of times to discuss the acquisition of real estate without actually stating what land was being considered as a possible location for an industrial park.
