July 28—The Wapato driver who authorities say was responsible for a fatal crash Sunday morning near Toppenish that claimed two lives may face criminal charges depending on the results of a blood toxicology report, Washington State Patrol Sgt. Matt Couchman said Monday.

A search warrant was issued Sunday to obtain a blood test from 19-year-old Leticia Gasca-Esquivel, Couchman said.

Gasca-Esquivel is not currently in custody. Intoxicants were suspected initially when troopers issued a news release on the accident Sunday.

Angela Walker, 36, and Kyle Walker, 35, of Toppenish were driving east on State Route 22 about 1:15 a.m., when Gasca-Esquivel drove through a stop sign traveling north on Meyers Road, slamming into the Walkers’ 2014 Chevy Impala, according to the State Patrol.

Both of the Walkers were pronounced dead at the scene. Couchman said Angela Walker, who was driving, was not suspected of being intoxicated.

Gasca-Esquivel was taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released, according to hospital staff.

Her two passengers, Karina Lopez, 21, of Moxee and Yasmin Sepulveda, 22 of Toppenish, were taken to Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center, where Lopez was reported in satisfactory condition Monday afternoon and Sepulveda was discharged Sunday from the ER, hospital staff said.

A GoFundMe account started by Angela Walker’s sister has raised over $9,000 to help with funeral costs and assistance for her four teenage daughters. (gofundme.com/2a2jbvuh2j)

A car wash fundraiser for the family is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at El Mercado, 206 N. Euclid Road in Grandview. A minimum donation of $5 is suggested.
