CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A Casper City Council member who was accused of ethics violations has announced his resignation.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1U3mqeE ) that Councilman Craig Hedquist announced Monday that he would resign.

Mayor Charlie Powell says the Council will take applicants for the vacant seat from Ward 2. Councilmembers will select a successor.

During his time in office, Hedquist was involved in two separate lawsuits against the city. He was elected in 2012 and then was the subject of two city-launched investigations in 2013.

He was accused of using harsh words against another city employee in a workplace violence complaint. He was also accused of having a conflict-of-interest by working both as a councilmember and the owner of a construction company that contracted with the city.

Hedquist did not respond to requests for comment.
