July 28—Crawford Central School Board unanimously approved the renewal of two bus contracts with no rate increases during Monday night’s meeting.

The contract with Girardat LP will be for seven years, effective from July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2022. The Hubbard Bus Services Inc. contract is for five years, effective July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2020. The two different companies have been used for years, according to Jan VanTuil, school board president.

The contracts were not opened for bidding and were simply renegotiated such that the district would see no rate increases for the base rates and mileage rates already paid, VanTuil said.

The Girardat bus service picks up students from the Cochranton area, while Hubbard is responsible for students in the Meadville area.

Both companies provide great work compared to the issues other Pennsylvania school districts face with bus contractors, VanTuil said during the meeting.

“I thank them for this contract,” she said. “We are very blessed to have the two companies we have and to have the relationship that we have.”

In addition, Harold Girardat, owner of Girardat, received the “Bus Stops Here” Award from the Pennsylvania School Bus Association on July 17, district Superintendent Thomas Washington said. The award is given to a person in the state that the PSBA believes has worked well as a role model to peers in the industry and schools.
