July 28—Police responded to a larceny call Wednesday on Elizabeth Drive around 5:30 a.m.

“(The victim) reported an unknown subject broke into his 1999 Chevrolet truck while it was parked in the driveway of 1600 Elizabeth Drive,” KDPS spokesman Woody Spencer said. “The subject stole the items listed. He did say that the vehicle was unsecured.”

Taken were $2,000 in power tools, a Ruger LCP .380-caliber pistol valued at $400,a $100 pair of binoculars and $40 in .38-caliber ammunition.

There were no immediate suspects.

Electronics, jewelry stolen in break-in

Someone broke into a residence in the 700 block of Cavalier Circle on Thursday evening.

“(The victim) advised she left her home around 7 p.m. and secured the residence before she left,” KDPS spokesman Woody Spencer said. “She came home to find the door had been kicked in officers arrived on the scene and searched the residence, but the suspect had already left prior to their arrival.”

Stolen was a $800 60-inch Phillips television, $500 in jewelry, a $300 40-inch Samsung television, six pairs of new shoes valued at $300, a $200 DVD rack and a $100 Nintendo Wii. There was also $200 in damage to the door.

Investigators were unable to find fingerprints from the suspect at the scene.

Stabbing sends woman to hospital

Police believe a man stabbed his girlfriend Friday afternoon in the 700 block of East Washington Avenue.

“When (officers) arrived, they made contact with (the victim),” KDPS spokesman Woody Spencer said. “(The victim) was bleeding heavily from her back and leg. She said the suspect was her boyfriend, Mr. Bobby (Ray) Smith.”

A witness told police Smith fled on foot from the scene, but they found and arrested him a short time later.

A search with a K-9 unit turned up the knife involved in the incident.

The victim was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for treatment.

Smith, 51, was scheduled to appear Monday in Lenoir County District Court for felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

He was on active probation for misdemeanor counts of shoplifting and possession of drug paraphernalia.
