July 28—A former United Methodist Church minister will spend up to 15 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a boy for nearly a decade.

Norman Theodore Faux, 55, of Lake Ariel, was sentenced Monday in Wayne County Court in Honesdale by Judge Russell D. Shurtleff.

State police arrested Mr. Faux last August after the victim, then 19, told investigators the former clergyman began sexually assaulting him when he was 9 years old. The assaults continued throughout the boy’s childhood.

The Times-Tribune does not identify victims of sexual assault.

Judge Shurtleff sentenced Mr. Faux to two years to 10 years in prison for incest and to three months to five years for corruption of minors. The sentences will run consecutively.

Mr. Faux, who faces lifetime registration as a sexually violent predator under the Adam Walsh Act, must also pay up to $5,000 for counseling for the victim, the judge said.

According to prosecutors, Mr. Faux was a United Methodist clergyman in Northeast Pennsylvania for 25 years, most recently serving as a pastor in Lake Ariel from 2008 to 2011, when he voluntarily surrendered his credentials as a minister. After 2011, he started an independent, nondenominational group known as the Lake Ariel Faith Fellowship.

First Assistant District Attorney Patrick L. Robinson said in a statement that Mr. Faux perverted his role as a clergyman.

“His conduct was disgusting and despicable. He is an extremely manipulative individual. He blames everybody but himself for his outrageous activity,” Mr. Robinson said.
