PHOENIX (AP) - An ex-Arizona State University professor has been arrested for allegedly abducting her daughter from California 25 years ago.

Authorities say 56-year-old Valerie Berry of Phoenix was taken into custody Tuesday.

They say Berry took her 3-year-old daughter from Santa Clara County in 1990 while going through a divorce, fled to Arizona and changed both her and her daughter’s names and Social Security numbers.

Officials with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office say Berry was tracked to Phoenix through prior identities, social media and other records.

She was known as Aleks Kelsi Webster at ASU, where she worked until retiring.

Authorities say Berry’s daughter lives in another state and her name isn’t being released.

They say Berry could face up to three years in prison if convicted in the case.
