LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities have identified a gunman who was shot by Los Angeles police in a busy San Fernando Valley shopping district.

The coroner’s office says 44-year-old Seth Raines of Los Angeles died last Friday on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City.

Witnesses say Raines had fired gunshots into the air as he calmly sat on a low brick wall near a bank.

Police say Raines was shot after he refused orders to drop the gun and instead raised the weapon.

The Los Angeles Times (https://lat.ms/1MwY2Rp ) says before moving to Los Angeles, Raines spent time in Humboldt County, Colorado, Kansas and Oregon.

In Los Angeles, he was charged with city code violations, including camping in a public place, but the charges were dismissed.

He also had a 2008 conviction for resisting arrest.
