COBLESKILL, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities have charged a 51-year-old homeless man with starting a fire inside a Wal-Mart superstore in upstate New York where he used to work.
Police tell The Daily Star of Oneonta (https://bit.ly/1MTA53S ) the surveillance video system inside the Wal-Mart Super Center in the Schoharie County village of Cobleskill captured Michael Deyo intentionally starting the July 19 fire with flammable liquids he obtained inside the building.
Officials say he fled on foot after starting the fire. He was taken into custody Monday with the help of police in Schenectady and charged with arson and criminal mischief.
The fire forced the evacuation of the 24-hour store and temporarily closed it for a day. No one was injured.
Deyo is being held Tuesday in the Albany County Jail on $50,000 bail. It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer.
