July 28—Iron Range landowners who want to participate in the 13th annual Minnesota Governor’s Deer Hunting Opener on Nov. 5-7 in Mountain Iron can do so by volunteering to be a hunter host. Hunter hosts will help promote Minnesota’s deer hunting tradition and the Iron Range by allowing visiting media and others to hunt their land. Hosts receive a complimentary ticket to the Governor’s Deer Hunting Opener Welcome to Camp Banquet on Nov. 5 at the Mountain Iron Community Center, where they will be formally recognized for their generosity. To complete a hunter host application, visit www.mngovernorsdeeropener.com or contact Bri Stacklie with the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association at (218) 259-1368. Camps selected as hunter hosts receive a gift package provided courtesy of non-government event sponsors. Governor Mark Dayton, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Commissioner Tom Landwehr, Explore Minnesota Tourism Director John Edman, the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association and local community planners will help celebrate the state’s deer hunting tradition. Tickets to the “Welcome to Camp” Banquet are $35 for the public and are available by contacting the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association at (218) 259-1368.
