MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - A man has been charged in connection with a six-month shoplifting spree that targeted Long Island drug stores and supermarkets.

Prosecutors announced Monday that 50-year-old Alexander Wachmyanin was indicted for targeting CVS, Rite Aid and Key Food stores from January to June.

Prosecutors say he also carjacked a woman and injured a bystander as he fled one of the locations.

They say the stolen merchandize in two of the eight cases exceeded $1,000.

Wachmyanin is due back in court Aug. 17.

It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
