DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine (AP) - A Maine man charged with shooting his father before turning the gun on himself has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

WABI-TV (https://bit.ly/1U3ELIG ) reports that 38-year-old Zachary Grant, of Abbot, wearing a protective helmet, entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment Monday.

State police say Grant was arrested in May after he was released from the hospital where he was treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face.

Police say 61-year-old David Grant was found shot to death in the front yard of his mobile home in Parkman on May 12.

Zachary Grant’s attorney, Jeff Silverstein, says his client seems to understand the charges and the penalties.

Silverstein says it remains to be seen what kind of long-term impact his injuries will have.

Grant remains jailed without bail.
