COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Central Ohioans living within the 614 area code who request new service or a new line can be assigned a number in the new 380 area code beginning next Jan. 30.

The Columbus Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1D363L3 ) reports the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has ordered the new 380 area code because the 614 area code is running out of phone numbers.

Regulators adopted an “overlay” plan that allows for two area codes in the region. The North American Numbering Plan Administration announced earlier this year that the 614 area code would soon run out of numbers.

Starting Jan. 30, all local calls will require residents to dial the appropriate area code plus the seven-digit phone numbers.
