NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s office says Landrieu is donating $2,500 from his campaign fun to help restore a memorial to law enforcement officers that was vandalized over the weekend.

The Louisiana Law Enforcement Officers Memorial was damaged Sunday at Lake Lawn Cemetery in Metairie.

In a statement Monday, Landrieu noted that the New Orleans Police Department has lost two officers in recent weeks - one who was shot to death on duty, another who was hit by a car while investigating an accident.

The Louisiana Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is maintained by a nonprofit organization. It honors the memories of Louisiana police officers, deputy sheriffs, state troopers, correctional officers, and federal agents killed in the line of duty.
