July 28—A 25-year-old Kermit man died after being shot twice after a verbal argument turned into a gun fight outside a Kermit bar.

Winkler County Sheriff George Keely said Mark Stalhman was shot twice around 1 a.m. Saturday after an argument started in the parking lot of the Texas Moon Lounge in Kermit, Stalhman was with three other men when an argument turned into a physical fight and then shots were fired, Keely said.

“Names got called, a fist fight started, someone grabbed a damn gun and someone ended up dead,” Keely said.

Stalhman was being transported to Winkler County Memorial Hospital when he was pronounced dead, Keely said. The sheriff added Stalhman suffered gunshot wounds in the left armpit and to the pelvis.

Stalhman’s body was taken to Lubbock County for an autopsy where Darren Mitchell, the chief investigator in Winkler County, is leading the investigation, Keely said. The Texas Rangers are also assisting.

No suspects have been charged in connection to the case, and Keely said in 24 years, he can only remember four other homicide cases.

“The Texas Moon is an exceptionally clean bar,” Keely said. “They just don’t have much bad happen there.”
