July 28—SAN LEANDRO — A suspect in a weekend homicide has been arrested on suspicion of murder after turning himself Monday afternoon, police said.

According to a statement, California Highway Patrol officers were handling a multicar collision on Interstate 880 near the Marina Boulevard offramp at 2 a.m. Saturday when they heard gunshots nearby. They looked inside a car on the freeway’s right shoulder and found Miguel Corrales-Rosales, 37, of Berkeley, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

After identifying a suspect late Saturday night with help from several Bay Area law enforcement agencies, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The suspect surrendered to CHP officers Monday afternoon, police said. Detectives met and took him into police custody in San Leandro, and he will appear in the Alameda County Superior Court later this week. His name has not been released.

“We are glad that we were able to identify and arrest the suspect responsible for killing Mr. Corrales-Rosales so quickly,” San Leandro police Lt. Robert McManus said.

The suspect and Corrales-Rosales knew each other and were in the car together at the time of the shooting, police said. No motive has been established.
