ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) - Authorities say a statue of a Confederate soldier in Rockville has been vandalized.

Police say the vandalism was discovered Monday morning. The words “Black Lives Matter” were spray painted in black and red on the statue, which is located near the Red Brick Courthouse.

Police say there are no suspects at this time.

There has been an ongoing debate on whether or not to remove the statue, which was dedicated in 1913 and sits on Montgomery County property.
