July 28—A 20-year-old Rockville Centre man and his mother have been arrested, charged in a kidnapping involving his 11-month-old son and the boy’s mother.

Nassau County police said the victim, identified only as the 20-year-old former girlfriend of defendant Malachi Blaylock, of 11 Old Mill Ct., had a restraining order against him but was lured to the home at about 1 p.m. July 20 by the man’s mother, Yolanda V. Gilreath, 51.

The victim — and her son — were then held captive at the home and at another home in Hempstead for five days before she was able to flee, police said.

The woman is not being identified because she is a victim of domestic violence, police said.

Police said that Gilreath, either through a phone call or text message, convinced the woman to bring the infant son she had with Blaylock to the Rockville Centre home on July 20.

“She was hesitant, because of the order of protection,” a police spokeswoman said Tuesday, adding: “But she was convinced, and then when the door opened all of a sudden he [Blaylock] was there.”

Police said Blaylock “removed the child from her arms” and ordered her to a bedroom where, after handing the child to Gilreath, Blaylock began pushing the victim to the ground, telling her she could not leave.

“He began yelling at the victim and punched her in the face and body,” police said.

“Over the course of the next five days,” police said, “the victim was held against her will while being beaten, stabbed in the hand with a pair of scissors, and threatened with a gun.”

Police said the victim “attempted to flee numerous times,” but was restrained by Blaylock. On July 22, Blaylock and his mother took the victim and the child to an apartment in Hempstead, police said.

There, police said, they were again held against their will.

Police said it wasn’t until Blaylock left the apartment at about 10 p.m. on July 24 that the victim was able to contact her own mother, who took her daughter to a hospital.

Police said Blaylock was arrested at 9:40 p.m. Monday in Hempstead, and his mother was arrested about 11 p.m. at her home in Rockville Centre.

Blaylock is charged with first-degree kidnapping, second-degree robbery, two counts of second-degree assault and counts of second-degree strangulation, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, first-degree and second-degree criminal contempt, third-degree assault, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal mischief and with endangering the welfare of a child. His mother, Gilreath, is charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree hindering prosecution, first-degree unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.

Both are scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
