RAWLINS, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming State Penitentiary inmate charged with trying to kill another inmate has pleaded not guilty in the case.

The Rawlins Daily Times reports (https://bit.ly/1JrZKBJ ) that 35-year-old Bobby Schaper appeared in court Monday. He pleaded not guilty to attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault charges.

Schaper had been serving a sentence set in 2011 for attempted manslaughter when he allegedly participated in an attack on another inmate in November.

Court records state that surveillance video captured Schaper and two other inmates, Michael Grooman and Joseph Martinez, punching and kicking the victim.

Officers used pepper spray to stop the fight. The victim was flown to a Casper hospital. He has identified the three men as his attackers.

Schaper faces up to life in prison if convicted of the crime.
