July 28—The Student Union Store at Oklahoma State University is busy preparing for the start of the new school year. E-Commerce Manager Kassidy Conway shares more about the back to school rush.

1. How does the store handle textbook sales?

We buy textbooks for 3,500 titles we provide every semester. That includes, new, used, e-books and customized textbooks. We don’t do rentals. We really work with the faculty to keep prices as low as we can, and we try to get as many used textbooks as we can. Most of them are getting here this week. We try to have all of our textbooks on hand by August 1. We get most of our used books by July 15. Starting Aug. 3 students can start putting stuff on their bursar account. We have a 10-day return policy; you have until Aug. 28 to return any books you don’t need as long as you keep your receipt. Students can also buy textbooks online. We launched a brand new website in April, shopokstate.com. We’re still adding a lot of product to it everyday. We have a great majority of clothing products online

2. What are the extended hours of the university store?

Aug. 13-22, we have extended hours so that everyone has plenty of time to get everything they need. We have those listed online, https://universitystore.okstate.edu/news/extended-hours-back-school.

3. Why must backpacks be left outside the store during the first few weeks?

We ask that you leave backpacks outside during our rush time, when we’re selling textbooks heavily. People are coming in and we don’t know what they’ve bought and brought in with them. It’s for their safety, too. It’s for a lot of reasons. We just have to take a few things into account. We do have lockers downstairs where you can lock up your belongings. We want you to be safe with your stuff.

4. What will be new at the store this year?

Hopefully for the first football game we will be opening a new store in the stadium, a much bigger store on the west end zone. They are doing construction on that now. We also have a lot of new apparel coming in, new stuff for football season. If you haven’t been in a few months there’s going to be a lot of new clothes you haven’t seen. We like to say our biggest thing is we give you more. Every dollar spent in the university store stays on campus. All that money goes back to the students and helps to enhance the out of classroom experience.

5. What technology is offered through the Student Union store?

We’ve got all kinds of great technology deals going on for back to school for students and the community. Orange Tech is the technology department of the university store. There’s three different areas. The sales … you don’t have to be a student to shop at Orange Tech but students do get a lot of education pricing on a lot of our products. We also have a trade-in service. We recycle your old Mac Book or iPad or phone. You get store credit for your old technology. We also have a service and repair center. If anything happens to technology while on campus, they can bring it to us and have it serviced.
