July 28—SAN JOSE — A man was arrested early Sunday after investigators alleged he stabbed and tried to sexually assault three women in separate attacks along a stretch of Monterey Road, according to San Jose police.

All of the victims survived the attacks. The suspect, whose name was not released by police, has been booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, attempted sexual assault, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and resisting arrest.

Officers were called just after 1 a.m. Sunday to Monterey Road near Alma Avenue when a woman reported that a man with a knife tried to sexually assault her. She told police that she struggled free and called for help.

About 45 minutes later, as police were investigating that case, another woman came up to them and told them a man had stabbed her while trying to sexually assault her.

Additional officers were summoned to the area to look for the assailant, police said. About 15 minutes later, a third woman called 911 to report that she had been stabbed in the area.

While dispatchers were talking to the third victim, an officer stopped a vehicle driven by a man matching the suspect description and took him into custody. Citing unspecified physical evidence and further questioning, investigators decided that the man was the suspect in all three attacks.

The third victim reportedly left the area in a vehicle before she could be interviewed in person and has not been located, even after police put an alert out to area hospitals to watch for potential stabbing or sexual-assault victims.

The SJPD’s sexual assault investigation unit is heading the investigation and can be contacted at 408-277-4102. Police said the suspect’s name or photograph will not be publicly released until the investigation is complete.
