BOYLSTON, N.Y. (AP) - Funeral services will be held this week for a 12-year-old boy who died after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle along a central New York road.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office says Joseph “Joey” Eisch was about a mile from his family’s home in Lacona last Friday afternoon when he hit while riding his bike on county Route 15 in the rural town of Boylston, 45 miles north of Syracuse.

He was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he later died.

Deputies say the boy heard a vehicle approaching and apparently looked over his shoulder, causing him to lose control of his bike and swerving into the path of a pickup truck.

Services will be held Wednesday evening at Sandy Creek High School. Joey completed the sixth grade last month.
