July 28—SOMERSET — The borough may have a new manager — but a familiar face — to oversee municipal operations.

Council members on Monday offered the borough manager post to interim manager Michele Enos, longtime assistant to longtime borough manager Benedict G. Vinzani Jr., who retired early at the end of January after 36 years with the borough.

Enos, who worked alongside Vinzani for 14 years as assistant to the borough manager, has acted in his stead for six months while council sifted through applications for a replacement.

She also spent more than 10 years as a township secretary in Conemaugh Township, where she still resides, before accepting a position at the borough in 2001.

Council members unanimously voted to offer Enos the position, with an annual salary of $70,000, requesting a response by the end of the business day Thursday.

Enos said she is pleased at the council members’ vote of confidence and is carefully considering the position.

If she accepts, Enos would become borough manager as of Aug. 1 — effective until the borough’s next reorganizational meeting in January 2016.

Over the past six months, Enos has overseen the launch of capital improvement projects, such as a replacement of a section of roof at the borough’s storage facility along South Franklin Avenue.

Council members on Monday approved the lowest bid — by Williamsburg-based TRS Roofing — of $31,500 for the job. Enos said that fix had to be completed before this winter, but an estimated $225,000 in additional roof repair work likely will be on the way.

Council also moved ahead on filling a vacant full-time officer position for the borough police department. After advertising the position and fulfilling a civil service process of collecting applications and testing, two applicants were eligible. Council voted to extend a conditional offer of employment to current part-time Officer Christina Hemminger.
