ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (AP) - A senior center in the Detroit suburb of St. Clair Shores is getting support from the federal government for a planned expansion and renovation.

U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters announced in a news release Monday that the city of St. Clair Shores would get a $1.76 million loan for the project. Plans call for a 2,000-square-foot expansion of the facility’s fitness center and renovation of kitchen space to include a small coffee shop.

The project would also include the addition of a patio that’s partially covered and renovations to offices and common spaces.

The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
