STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - A startup business created by a team of students at Mississippi State University is getting a $100,000 investment from a Gulf Coast investor.

In a Monday news release, the university said a private investor put up the money in exchange for 10 percent equity in the company, called CampusKnot.

CampusKnot is a social media website with about 150 current users. It connects students to MSU academic and campus-life resources. The owners hope the free service eventually will be a site for students at Mississippi State and other universities and colleges to easily reach teachers and classmates, as well as residence halls and student organizations.

Mississippi State says the $100,000 investment is the largest recorded private investment to a student startup developed at the university. It brings CampusKnot’s value to $1 million.
