July 28—A Forest City man was arrested by the Cleveland County Sheriff’s office Monday afternoon in connection with a weekend shooting.

Jacob Avery Foote, 19, of 167 Beaver Street in Forest City, faces multiple charges after allegedly firing birdshot pellets at a home on OG Lail Road in Shelby.

Just before 8 a.m. Saturday, the sheriff’s office responded to a call about a shooting at the home, Sheriff Alan Norman said.

There were two female victims, one in her mid-to-late 50s and the other around 80 years old, who were sitting on their front porch when a small grey car pulled up on the road, stopped and fired several shots from a shotgun from inside the vehicle before driving off, Norman said.

“There was an acquaintance of (Foote’s) that stayed at that home on occasion,” Norman said. “It went from a domestic issue to the suspect using deadly force.”

The weapon and vehicle used in the shooting was recovered early Monday afternoon. Foote was found later in Forest City and has been cooperating with the sheriff’s office, according to Norman.

“This was a total disregard for human life by discharging the weapon at the two residents on the porch,” he said.

Both women are doing fine physically, Norman added.

Foote is currently being held at the Cleveland County Jail with a $25,000 bond. He faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon to inflict serious injury and discharging a firearm at a residence.

He will make his first appearance in court on Tuesday morning.
