DOVER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Treetops Resort in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula says that it has emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection following a voluntarily reorganization.

The golf and ski resort announced Monday that the process gave its owners time to shed legacy debt and position itself financially for future improvements.

Treetops Resort is in Otsego County’s Dover Township, east of Gaylord. It sought reorganization under bankruptcy law in November.

The resort remained open during the reorganization. General manager Barry Owens says in a statement that bankruptcy “was a necessary action to preserve the value of our business” and “allowed Treetops Resort to clear the deck and look to the future.”
