COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) - A Lowndes County woman is charged with murder in the death of her husband.

WCBI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1VKWDtu ) 37-year-old Christina Martinez Vasquez was ordered held on a $500,000 bond during an initial court appearance Monday.

Authorities say her mother, Lydia Martinez, is also charged with murder. No court date has been set.

Both were arrested last week in the disappearance of 40-year-old Manuel Vasquez.

Vasquez’ mother reported him missing July 13. Others say he left June 24 for a retreat, without saying where it was.

Investigators believe Vasquez was killed in a house in New Hope, and that his body was burned in a container in the backyard. Authorities say bone fragments and ashes were found last week.

Coroner Greg Merchant says the bones and ashes have been taken to the crime lab in Jackson.
